WE’RE BOWHUNT DOWNUNDER

Here’s a little bit about what we do, who we are, and why we do it.

WHO WE ARE…

Bow Hunt Downunder showcases the real journey of bow hunting game in Australia and around the world. With high quality film equipment, and local knowledge of rich hunting lands, the films really showcase the best bow hunting has to offer. Rushing against the close of hunting seasons, dealing with snapped strings, tough hikes through trying terrain, and hours on end spent tracking, the films we make represent the highs and lows up bow hunting, and why we keep coming back for more.

Bow Hunt Downunder started with Jerry and Brad, who both share common interests; They live to hunt, and capturing hunts on film is just something else they’ve always done. They both hunt similar, with the same attitude, but manage to see things a bit differently through the view finder. It was 2014, Jerry and Brad had already individually put out a number of hunting videos on the Aussie market, but things were shifting from DVD to digital. They talked about doing a couple of hunts together, but adding more effort to the cinematography side of the videos, turning them into full blown films.

This was the start of Bow Hunt Downunder, where Jerry & Brad could showcase Australia’s vast hunt rich landscapes as seen through their eyes, hunting for wild boar, deer, and a variety of other introduced game.

The Aussie Bow Hunting community showed a bunch of support for these films, and since 2014, Bow Hunt Downunder has been able to travel across the world filming their Bow Hunting adventures, sharing these trips in the form of films with the community.

They’re not too sure where Bow Hunt Downunder will go from here, as they’re a non-profit passion project. The support from the community, and the positive feedback on their films means the world to the Bow Hunt

Downunder crew. So for now, Bow Hunt Downunder only have their attention set on the next hunt, the next film, and making content that themselves and the community can enjoy!

I remember the day clearly when videography and bowhunting clicked in my mind. My father got a parcel in the mail and opened it with a grin on his face. He had what looked like a DVD, but not one from the video store, this one was sent from the middle of NSW, and had ‘Two Blade Productions’ written on it. The video was called ‘Hogz of Oz’, which funnily enough happened to be one of Brads films! When I finished watching that film, I remember sitting there, wondering for a bit about how quick I can get to the local camera store to buy myself a video camera, with no deliberation what so ever. I can remember I was 14 years old, had $800 in the bank, and was willing to spend the whole lot on a camera. I did, in fact I had to borrow $300 from the old man to get it, as it was a bit more than I could afford!

Fast forward 17 years and nothing has changed. Bowhunting and filming is definitely a passion, and to this Brad has had a big influence on my bowhunting success, so it’s great to collaborate with Bow Hunt Downunder and produce quality films for hunters.

Looking back at it now, my first experience that really sticks out in my head was when I was 7 or 8 years old, having a BBQ at a neighbours. They had an old film projector running, showing different steam engines which really bored the shit out of me. So I left the room, looking for something else to do. I heard the sound of a fox whistle and headed back into the projector room, where I fixated on the images the projector showed. Thinking back, the footage was pretty sketchy, but seeing those foxes running in on that projector was the best thing I’d seen at the time, and can still picture it so clearly.

Fast forward to the late 80’s and I started bowhunting a lot. Checking out the archery tournaments, I saw a couple of black and white films. This was the catalyst for me, and that week I hired a video camera, shooting that weekends hunting trip.

A dozen or so cameras later, and at least as many tripods, the opportunity to work alongside Jerry came about, and since then I haven’t looked back.
